JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Finance is responsible for leading the finance function of the organisation overseeing financial planning, budgeting, accounting operations, statutory and management reporting, cash flow and treasury management, and internal financial controls. The role ensures the company's financial records are accurate and compliant with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and provides the Managing Director/CEO and management team with the financial insight needed to support operational and strategic decisions across the company's security services business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports in accordance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS/local GAAP).
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working with department and operations heads to develop realistic budgets and monitor performance against plan.
• Manage the company's cash flow, working capital, and treasury operations, ensuring adequate liquidity to support operational needs (including payroll for a security workforce).
• Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory obligations, including tax filings (VAT, WHT, PAYE, company income tax), pension remittances, and other applicable levies.
• Coordinate the annual external audit process and liaise with auditors, ensuring timely resolution of audit queries and implementation of recommendations.
• Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets and reduce the risk of error or fraud.
• Monitor cost of operations (including manpower, equipment, and logistics costs typical of a security services business) and identify opportunities for cost efficiency.
• Provide financial analysis and business-case support for contracts, tenders, pricing decisions, and new client proposals. • Manage relationships with banks, insurers, tax authorities, and other external financial stakeholders.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop finance team members, ensuring adequate segregation of duties and capacity within the department. • Prepare periodic financial reports and presentations for the Managing Director/CEO, management team, and, where required, the Board or parent company.
• Support payroll integrity and statutory compliance for a large, distributed security workforce, including reconciliation of staff costs and benefits.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (ICAN, ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent) is required; part-qualified candidates with strong relevant experience may be considered.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with prior experience in a finance leadership role (Finance Manager, Head of Finance, or similar).
• Experience in the security services, facilities management, logistics, or a similarly operations-intensive industry is an advantage.
• Strong working knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, cash flow management, payroll processes, and statutory/tax compliance.
• Proficiency with accounting software/ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
